What to Expect at Your Salon Appointment

So, you’ve booked your first appointment with us. First of all, welcome aboard! We’re so glad you’re here.

We know that walking into a new salon can feel like a leap of faith, especially when it’s about embracing the curls you might have spent a lifetime fighting, or feeling like you just don’t want to go gray after all!

Let us pull back the curtain and ease your mind. Here’s exactly what you can expect from your first visit with us—and what makes the DryLand experience a little different.

Leave the “Perfect Hair Day” Pressure at the Door. We want to make one thing incredibly clear: we don’t judge. Seriously. Come as you are. If your hair is in a three-day-old messy bun, that’s fine. If there’s a little box-dye line at your roots, we’ve seen it (and fixed it) all.

Our founder, Lynnae, has been a curly hair specialist for over 25 years with clients that have followed her for years, and she’s lived the curly life herself. She built this salon on the understanding that hair changes, you have good days and bad days, and need patience, not perfectionism. The only thing we ask? Try to be on time. That’s it. We’ll try really hard to be on time too. The rest, we’ll handle together.

Your Consultation is a Real Conversation About You. Your time in our chair doesn’t start with scissors. It starts with a conversation. Every service includes an in-depth consultation where we listen. We want to know your story: what you love, what you battle, and what you dream of for your hair.

We’ll ask questions you might not have considered:

  • “What’s your water like at home? Hard water can change everything.”
  • “How often do you actually wear your hair up?”
  • “What does your ideal week of haircare look like—realistically?”

This isn’t small talk. It’s diagnostic. And because our team is trained in a wide swath of techniques in cutting and coloring as well as major curly methods—from DevaCurl and Ouidad to R+Co, Bumble & Bumble, and Rezo—we’re not listening with a single, rigid philosophy in mind. We’re listening to understand which tools from our extensive toolkit will serve you best.

Here’s where things get a little interesting. The expert opinion: we believe your natural, healthy hair is your most beautiful asset. So, if you ask for something that might compromise that health—like over-bleaching or constant heat styling—we won’t just say “okay.” We’ll have an honest, expert conversation with you about it. We see ourselves as guides and guardians of your hair’s integrity. Our goal is always to enhance what you have, not fight against it.

From the moment you walk in, our mission is to make you feel seen, heard, and understood. This is a safe space for you and your hair. We combine decades of hands-on experience with relentless, top-tier education to ensure you get a result that’s not just beautiful in our chair, but wonderfully wearable in your real life.

Ready to start the conversation? We can’t wait to meet you—and your locks—exactly as you are.

Update on our Veteran

Our Veteran Friend is doing much better! He has an appointment at the VA to have his eyes looked at, his backyard has been tended to, and his house has gotten a thorough cleaning! He’s feeling much better, and even a little hopeful about his home.

The contributions from neighbors and friends keep coming in, little by little, but we’re still off from our goal of $6,000 by September 23rd to save Larry’s house from foreclosure. You can read about it here: drylandsalon.com/save-veterans-house-cute-pup

Special thanks to:Happy Pappy

Elysia and Carl for taking care of the yard.

Liz for helping clean Larry’s kitchen.

John for the dog food (Pappy loves it!)

Save a Veteran’s House! and his cute Pup!

This is Larry. He’s a veteran, honorably discharged with a bullet in his leg, and he’s about to lose his house unless we can raise $6,000 by September 23rd.

Larry with BEAST ICE!
He’s so Baltimore!

This is his dog, Pappy! So cute!

Pappy

Larry is our neighbor, and he lost what was left of his sight during an accident 7 months ago. We’re talking to the VA and other assistance organizations, but they won’t give us an extension on his house foreclosure to work through all the paperwork and get his military pension processed (since he never felt he deserved it, but now it’s important).

He has a reverse mortgage that has been putting food in Pappy’s bowl, but with Larry’s declining condition, he’s going to need more permanent help; in-home help, so that he can keep his super sweet dog! But first we must save his house!!!

Please spare whatever assistance you can to help us reach our goal. Updates will be posted here with progress and pictures of a happy Pappy!

If you cannot spare any money, please know that bringing meals, company and books-on-tape, are always appreciated. Also if you want to help clean his yard and house, it could use some more love.

Thank you,
